MANDO
Janos MANDA (1820-?) was born in Miglesz, Zemplen,
Hungary (now Slovakia). He m. Anna DOLYAK (1824-?),
born in Kis Azar, Zemplen, Hungary. In the 1869 Hungarian census, the couple
lived in Miglesz with two sons: Gyorgy (abt 1854-?) I have no further information
on him.
John (5 Feb 1854-10 Dec 1912) m. abt 1880 his first
wife Elizabeth LUTERAN (May 1851-15 Jul 1905). John
and Elizabeth were in Taylor, Lackawanna, PA, by 1900. A possible passenger list
has been located for John: The steamship Indiana, which arrived in
Philadelphia in 1886, included a John MANDA age 30,
from Hungary. No immigration information has been located for Elizabeth or any
of the children probbaly born in Europe. John was killed in a coal mining
accident and is buried in St. Mary's Greek Catholic Cemetery in Taylor. They had
six children:
John (Jun 1881-bef 1912) b. in Hungary/Slovakia. I
have no further information on him yet,
Mary (13 Oct 1883-19 Mar 1955) b. West Pittston,
Luzerne, PA. She m. Paul DROBNAK bef 1912. They are
buried in St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Cemetery in Taylor, Lackawanna, PA.
Elizabeth (8 Dec 1886-5 Dec 1942) m. John
Andrew KLEBACK Jr., son of John Andrew KLEBACK Sr.
and Susan HRENYO.They eloped, and no record has been
located for their marriage abt 1908. They are buried in St. Catherine's
Cemetery, Moscow, Lackawanna, PA.
Susan (24 Jan 1891-Feb 1963) m. John
ROSICK in 1911 in Taylor, Lackawanna, PA.
George (19 Mar 1894-1947) m. Anna
KLEBACK 5 Mar 1918 in Taylor, Lackawanna, PA. He later m. Elizabeth
MORA, daughter of Stephen MORA and Mary
?. George and Elizabeth are buried in St. John's Slovak Church Cemetery
in Taylor.
Bertha (Theresa?) (Feb 1899-?) "Tessie"
worked as a housekeeper for Father Volkay in Taylor and Yonkers, NY. Her first
husband's name is unknown. She later m. Charles MORSILLO.
She lived in Brooklyn in Dec 1942. I have no further information on her.
The second wife of John MANDA was Annie
BALOG (1876-?) who had previously been married to ?
METRO. After John's death, Annie was living in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
John and Annie had three children together:
Michael J. (1907-1964) m. Agnes
WAVERKA (1911-?), daughter of Joseph WAVERKA
and Anna TALAFORES. He is buried at St. Mary's
Byzantine Catholic Cemetery in Taylor. Agnes later m. John
PRASCHAK, a widower.
Stephen (30 Jul 1908-14 Jan 1928). He never married
and is buried at St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Taylor.
Margaret I have no information on her yet.
