Monessen is located in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. According to the book Monessen Industrial Boomtown and Steel Community 1898-1980, Monessen was incorporated as a borough in September 1898.
Both my grandfather and grandmother's families settled in Monessen. My grandmother's family did spend some years in Suterville and Smithdale first. The Pazics (also spelled Pazich) and Lucas (also spelled Lukas) families were originally from the same town -- Klokocso, Ung, Hungary now Klokocov, Slovakia. Members of the Pazics/Pazich family still reside in that area, now living in the larger town of Michalovce. I have not traced any of the Lucas family still living in Europe, but they had moved to Nagy Kallo, Szabolcs, Hungary before the father of the family, Mihaly Luzas, immigrated before 1907. His wife Michaelyne (Helen) would follow with their three daughters, Maria (my grandmother), Julia, and Helen in 1907. My grandfather immigrated as a single man in 1909. Despite the families' membership in the Greek Catholic church at Klokocso, my grandmother and grandfather John never knew each other until they met in Monessen.
I am just starting to collect Monessen postcards. The three I have so far are scanned below. I have found these through online auctions, especially eBay at www.ebay.com.
A good site for Monessen information and postcards is Cassandra's House
